Addressing the Needs of People with Disabilities in Public Health Emergencies

Overview
Public health emergencies can be dangerous and challenging, especially for people with disabilities. Communicators may have trouble reaching them. Caretakers may find it difficult to help them evacuate or get to a healthcare provider. Their health may be more severely affected by the emergency. Please review the video recording of the webinar hosted by CDC’s Cindy Hinton and the CDC EPIC Team for a discussion on how community leaders, community members, emergency response workers, and caretakers can plan ahead to lessen the harm of emergencies on people with disabilities.
Webinar participants and viewers will accomplish the following:
- Describe CDC’s role in the topic covered during the presentation.
- Describe the topic’s implications for respective constituents.
- Discuss concerns and issues related to preparedness for and response to urgent public health threats.
- Identify reliable information resources for the topic.
- Describe how to promote health improvement, wellness, and disease prevention.
